Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was set up by the Government of India on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. It is an agency constituted under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The primary objective of BEE India is to reduce energy intensity of the Indian economy and cost saving. The Government has made it mandatory for some notified products to have star ratings and labels which specify the energy saving performance of the product and help the customers in making the perfect choice before purchasing any such product. A higher star rating represents higher energy saving.

How to get (BEE) Registration in India?

The manufacturer(s) have to apply for BEE Certification and complete the product testing and documentation required by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to get the product certified with BEE Star Rating.

Documents and Information Required by Testing Laboratory (Lab)

» The applicant (manufacturer) needs to provide sample(s) with user manual.

» The applicant needs to provide registered address proof of the manufacturing unit, such as, copy of factory license having the relevant product mentioned as a scope of manufacturing and bearing the address of manufacturing unit – it must be in English and in original language as well.

» The applicant must have obtained BIS License and provide a copy of the same with validity date and denoting all applied models.

Documents / Information Sought by Bureau of Energy Efficiency for Company / Brand Registration

» A cover letter enlisting all the information and attachments provided

» The applicant (manufacturer) needs to provide a copy of online security deposit payment receipt

» The applicant needs to provide print out of online brand registration application

» The applicant needs to provide copy of trade mark / brand registration

» If the manufacturing unit is not the owner of the trademark, the applicant needs to provide a copy of authorizing letter from the trade mark brand owner.

» If applicable (for Indian OEM only), a copy of MSME certificate.

» The applicant needs to provide a copy of valid ISO 9001 certificate issued in the name and address of the manufacturing unit mentioned in company registration form of applicant (manufacturer) (in case of multiple manufacturing units, the applicant (manufacturer) needs to provide ISO of all the manufacturing units)

» A letter of authorized signatory must be provided.

» The applicant must provide a copy of BIS License with its validity date and all applied models details

» A covering letter mentioning all the information and attachments provided

» The applicant must provide a copy of payment receipt paid online for model registration

» The applicant should also print out of online application form (other form(s))

» The applicant must provide Original Test Report

» A sample of BEE Label should also be provided.
